The Good The Bad and the Ugly: A Dad’s Perspective on Fatherhood

I have been a father for the past 12 years. My wife and I had our daughter when she was in high school. It took me a while to adjust, but now I love it! I will be honest, there are times where things get tough (the good, the bad and the ugly). But at the end of day my favorite part of being a dad is coming home from work to see my two girls waiting for me with smiles on their faces.

I’m going to be honest with you. It’s hard being a dad, and I’ve done my fair share of bad parenting. But it’s also amazing and worth every second! If you’re a parent, or just thinking about becoming one, this blog post is for you!

I’m a dad who loves being a dad. I love my kids and the time I spend with them, but as any parent knows, there’s definite good mixed in with the bad and ugly. Raising children can be hard work, but it is also an incredibly rewarding experience. Parenting takes patience and perseverance – two qualities that never run out when you are raising your own little human beings. Muminkaffe has some more information about a dad’s perspective on fatherhood.

The day I met my son was the best day of my life. The second best day was when he told me for the first time that he loved me. The third best day is everytime he tells me now. He’s growing up way too fast and there are days where it feels like everything sucks, but those are few and far between because 99% of the time being a dad rocks!

The good – what’s the best thing about being a dad

I often find myself reflecting on the best thing about being a dad. It can be hard at times, juggling work and family commitments and sometimes it feels like I’m not giving enough time to either. Then I look into my son’s eyes when he is smiling or laughing and all of that goes away for a while. There are so many great things about being a dad but ultimately I think it’s the little moments in his life that are probably the most rewarding – those first steps, his first word, his first day of school. These memories will last me forever.

The best thing about being a dad is the unconditional love I have for my daughter. It’s an indescribable feeling that makes me happier than anything else in this world. Now when she wakes up from a nap, it’s not just her who has to wake up and go through the day with sleep-wrinkled clothes and bed head; there’s another person beside her who needs to be ready to face the world too. And as long as I’m around, that will never change.”

The bad – what are some challenges in fatherhood

Fatherhood is hard work. Taking care of a new infant can be daunting, with all the sleepless nights and feeding schedules. The challenge doesn’t stop once they’re out of diapers though; there are so many other things to worry about as your child grows up: potty training, homework help, teaching them right from wrong…to name just a few!  But that’s not what this blog post is about. This post is for all those dads who have been on their own from day one – you know who you are! There are some challenges that we face in fatherhood that moms don’t share with us either because they’ve never experienced it or maybe they just don’t want to admit how tough it can be at times!

Fathers have their own set of challenges when it comes to parenting. In this blog post, I am going to talk about some of the common challenges fathers face in fatherhood and how they can be overcome.

The ugly – do you have any regrets as a parent

There are so many things I regret as a parent. There is that time when I yelled at my son for not eating his dinner and now he refuses to eat anything but pasta, no matter how much we offer him. Or the time I was sick of hearing my daughter crying so I threw her up in the air a few times before putting her back down on the floor where she continued to cry. Those were just some of the examples from our last month alone! It’s true that there are days when it feels like we’re all going crazy and nothing is working out for us or with us.

I’m not going to lie – I have regrets. Being a parent isn’t easy, and it’s usually messy. There are hard decisions that need to be made every day that may or may not make you feel good about yourself later on in the day. We all do our best as parents and learning is a continual process for all of us!
