I have always been drawn to old money lifestyles because it’s a very comfortable way of living. It’s also a very expensive lifestyle, so there’s a lot of pressure to live up to a certain standard.
On the other hand, there are lots of other ways of living that don’t have the same pressure for your lifestyle to be up to par.
My father is the founder of an old money lifestyle that started in the 70’s when he bought a house in the countryside in the UK. Because he was already in a comfortable lifestyle, he thought it was the right time to make his house a little more extravagant. He had a lot of money, so he thought it was the right time to buy a nice big yacht.
I think you can say the same thing about how many people want to spend their money wisely. They have the money and want to spend it in the right way. We like to spend it on things that are trendy, shiny, and exciting. We want to feel that pressure of having to live up to our own standards. But we don’t always realize it until it is too late.
My parents were very rich, but they never spent their money in the right way. The only times we ever spent money on ourselves was if it was to get the newest computer, and we never ever spent money to feel good about ourselves. We always treated ourselves as just a means to an end. We wanted to look good, but we never wanted to feel good. We were always on that path of self-image.
For the longest time, we were like that too. We never felt happy about ourselves, and we wanted to look good, but we didn’t want to feel good. We were always on that path of self-image.
We’re not the only ones who have a self-image problem. Our society as a whole seems to struggle with this as well. In the late 90s, young people used to be so into themselves and so obsessed with self-image that they didn’t think about what they were doing. While a lot of people are now starting to recognize this and to be more open about it, there are still some people out there who are still living in a very self-image-depressing world.
The problem is that the world is now so full of different identities that we have so little time in which to reflect on our self-image. So for as long as we have this busy-ness to deal with, we will never be able to fully focus on what is important to us and what we love.
The idea of self-image is a difficult one to swallow. You have many ways of relating to yourself: the way you treat people, your physical appearance, your work, your hobbies, etc. You are a unique person in that sense. But the more we allow ourselves to be identified by our work, our hobbies, our appearance, and so on, the less we can truly have any sense of our own identity.
I think this is what is so infuriating about a lot of the so-called “old money” lifestyle. A lot of people are used to seeing their self-image reflected back at them from the mirror as their “own image.” But the mirror often does not reflect the actual image. It reflects the same image over and over again, as the same person, but the image is so fuzzy that we can’t really remember who we are anymore.
